Registration
Northbrook Community Nursery School offers programs for children ages 18 months through 6 years. Early registration is held in November for current families, and Open registration begins in December for the public. Registration is ongoing until all classes are filled to capacity.
NCNS holds a community Open House, providing an opportunity for you and your children to visit the school, meet the school Director, and talk to some of our teachers and Board members. Classrooms will be open for exploration and play. This year our open house will be held on Saturday, November 7th, 2009 at 10:00am.
We encourage any families interested in applying to visit our school. Please contact Gail Nemoy, school Director, at 847-272-5430 or gail.nemoy@ncnskids.org to schedule a personal tour of our facility. For more information or an enrollment application, please call the school or send an email to info@ncnskids.org.
Early Registration
Early Registration begins late November. Priority is given to each group in the order listed below, and applications are processed within each prioritized group in the order that they are received:
1. Children of current Board members and current teachers’ children
2. Currently enrolled children (including Parent/Tot)
3. Siblings of currently enrolled children
4. Children of former Board members who have served their full term (3 years) on the Board
5. Children with parents or siblings who previously attended the school
Open Registration
Open Registration begins early December for all new families, and applications are accepted on a first come, first served basis. The same method that was used for Early Registration priority numbering will be used for Open Registration priority numbering on a day-to-day basis
Parents are responsible for being informed about registration dates. The school cannot assure priority status to families who miss their registration date.
Application Procedure
Applications may be either mailed or dropped off at the school. Applications received by mail will be processed after the hand-delivered applications on the day they are received. No applications will be accepted by telephone.
Applications will be processed on a first come, first served basis and in the order they are received within each prioritized group.
All application materials must include the following items:
• Completed application form
• Signed Consent & Agreement form
• Non-refundable $100 registration fee
• Deposit of 1/6 of the annual fee
The application will not be accepted if any of the forms, registration fee, or deposit is missing. In addition, if you are registering a child new to the school, please submit a copy of your child’s official County birth certificate or passport with the application.
Acceptance
NCNS hopes to accommodate all families who wish to enroll their children in our programs. Applications are processed using your first and second choice classes. In the event a class has more applications than spaces, your child will be placed on a waiting list. Individuals occupying the first five positions on the waiting list for a class will be required to pay the non-refundable registration fee at the time the application is submitted. These individuals will not be required to pay the deposit unless they receive a place in the class prior to the beginning of the school year.
Following Open Registration, the school will send letters of notification to students accepted into the respective programs. Families with children on the waiting list will also be notified of such fact following registration.
Class Fees & Payment Schedule
NCNS charges fees for its classes that are consistent with other area pre-schools offering comparable NAEYC accredited programs. Fees rates vary depending on the number of days a child is enrolled.
NCNS accepts fee payments upfront for the entire school year or offers a payment schedule for families that prefer to spread the payments out over the current year. The standard NCNS payment schedule is based on a four-payment schedule with payments due as follows:
NCNS Standard Class Fee Payment Schedule
1. 1/6 payment due (Deposit) with $100 registration fee at the time of registration
2. 1/6 payment due on May 1st
3. 1/3 payment due on September 1st
4. 1/3 payment due on February 1st
NCNS offers additional flexibility with fee payments by offering the opportunity for families to customize a payment plan that meets their individual needs. Families can inquire about customized payment plans with the Treasurer – Accounts Receivable at any point (from the time of registration or any time thereafter, including after the school year starts). We are flexible to meet the needs of our families and are happy to work out a plan that works for everyone.
Families will receive reminder notices of upcoming payments due at least a couple of weeks in advance of the due date. Payments can either be dropped off at the school with the School Director or they can be mailed to the school’s P.O. Box address listed below.

Payment Methods
NCNS accepts the following form of payment for class fees:
- Cash
- Check
- Credit Card – VISA and MasterCard only
Credit card forms are typically distributed with the Summer Mailer as well as with each of the fee reminder notices. Payments made by credit card will be subject to a +2.04% + $.10 service charge.
NCNS policy also states the following . . .
• Fee payments received more than 7 days past the due date will be charged a $20 late fee.
• If a family has two returned checks or two denied credit cards during a school year, only cash or cash equivalents will be accepted for all future payments.
• Any NSF check will be charged a $20 fee.
Financial Assistance/Scholarship
NCNS is committed to providing financial assistance to families in need by establishing an annual scholarship fund. Families in need can receive some relief on fees by applying for a partial scholarship for their child/children.
Interested families can obtain a scholarship application from the Scholarship Committee which consists exclusively of the School Director, Enrollment Chairperson and Treasurer - Accounts Receivable. The Committee meets to review all scholarship applications and makes decisions based on matching the available budget to the families in need. The Scholarship Committee holds all applications and discussions in complete confidence and only final budget information is shared with the rest of the Board (no names or details are included). We respect the need for privacy and keep your information completely confidential.
Scholarship applications do not currently have an official deadline; however, the sooner the application is submitted, the better, simply because the Scholarship Committee allocates the fixed budget based on the applications they have before them. Once the budget has been spent, it is unlikely that additional applications will be approved.
Withdrawal
Any request by a parent or guardian for a withdrawal from the School should be made to the Director in writing at least two weeks prior to the child’s last day. Please refer to the Consent & Agreement for the criteria for obtaining a refund of deposit. The registration fee is not refundable for any reason.
NCNS Policy
Northbrook Community Nursery School welcomes all applicants and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, religion, or disability in its programs or activities. NCNS accepts children with special needs according to our regular registration policies. While NCNS will make every effort to accommodate all children who register, NCNS is not able to alter the nature of the program or place an undue burden on teachers, staff and other NCNS resources, and admission will be denied. If the director and staff determine a child may participate in the program with an aide, application may be made to the Somerman Fund for assistance with the cost of the aide.
